Steady progress from Roaring Lion after 2nd op Roaring Lion is reported to be making “steady progress” after having to undergo a second operation for colic on Thursday. The four-year-old, owned by Qatar Racing and housed at Tweenhills in Gloucestershire, was shipped to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand to take up stallion duties during the winter breeding season. However, Roaring Lion was taken ill after leaving quarantine last Saturday, undergoing emergency surgery for colic before further intervention was required after his condition deteriorated on Thursday. That second operation involved removing a section of Roaring Lion’s small intestine and Cambridge Stud has issued a positive update on the Kitten’s Joy colt. A statement on www.cambridgestud.co.nz said: “It is a testament to the horse’s courage and character that he is making steady progress from that second operation and, although he has a mountain to climb, we are cautiously happy with his progress. “He is bright, alert and interested in everything that is going on around him. He has been out for two short walks, had a very small pick of grass and appears relaxed, showing good clinical signs."
