Steps To Freedom wins at Cheltenham

Steps To Freedom (11-8 favourite) edged out Prospect Wells in the Grade 2 Opus Energy Novices' Hurdle (registered as the Sharp Novices' Hurdle) at Cheltenham on Friday.

The duo saw off the challenge of Ericht up the hill and and it was the Jessica Harrington-trained five-year-old who stuck his neck out where it mattered to land the spoils.

That was the distance back to Prospect Wells in second who was two-and-a-half lengths ahead of Nicky Henderson's Ericht in third.

Winning jockey Robbie Power said of the winner: "He's a very, very good horse and he wants a stronger gallop than that. He stays well."

"I was pleased with him, maybe he could have won it a little bit easier but he had to battle hard," Harrington said.
