Strong Irish bid for the Coventry Round Two attempts to give Jim Bolger a second Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday. Bolger won the Group Two with Dawn Approach in 2012 and this year relies on his unbeaten Godolphin-owned son of Teofilo. Bolger's son-in-law Kevin Manning takes the ride and said: "We're pleased with him so far. He's done everything we've asked of him. "He was impressive at the Curragh, stepping back down to five furlongs and to do it the way he did it. I'm looking forward to riding him. "I think my horse is very smart. He's very straightforward and has got a great temperament. The trip doesn't seem to be an issue to him and neither does the ground." No trainer has a better recent Coventry record than Aidan O'Brien, with wins for Henrythenavigator (2007), Power (2011) and War Command (2013). This year he relies solely on the Ryan Moore-ridden Air Force Blue, whose Curragh maiden win has worked out extremely well. "He's in good form. He got a little fizzy with Ryan in the stalls first time. He travelled well, but got a little tired in the last 50 yards," said O'Brien. "We've been happy with him and the second (Rockaway Valley) has won nicely since. We're looking forward to running him. The six furlongs and lovely fast ground will suit."
