Summer Is Tomorrow in rain-soaked Roscommon Joseph O'Brien's Summer Is Tomorrow really ground it out on the soft ground over an extended seven-furlongs at Roscommon in the opening Irish EBF Median Sires Series Race. The 7/4 favourite raced in rear of mid-division and his backers were undoubtedly fretting when he came well off the bridle with over a quarter of a mile to race. Once Dylan Browne McMonagle switched him out for daylight, though, he began to grind his way into contention. The pair's forward momentum saw them grab a narrow lead in the final furlong and they had enough in the tank to hold a rallying Red Autumn (11/2) by three-quarters of a length. Morehampton was more than four lengths away in third at 9/4. The winning rider said: "He was good. He’s an improving horse and we always thought he would handle slow ground and today was the first time that he’s actually got it. “I was probably a slot further back than planned, but I didn’t want to force him too much in the conditions. “Once I angled him out, he took a furlong to get into top gear but, from the furlong pole home, he was good and he hit the line well. “It was a super run the last day, over a trip that was plenty short for him. He hit the line hard and he was always going to appreciate the step back up in trip. “I think over a nice mile on a good track you’ll see him even better.” This was a second success for Summer Is Tomorrow who shed his maiden tag at Down Royal in July.
