There are two handicaps at the Curragh on Sunday, including the QuinnBet Spring Fillies Handicap.

This can often be an informative race with many of the winners and other runners going on to better through the season, no more so than Create Belief who won the Sandringham at Royal Ascot on her next start in 2021.

We also have a handicap over 1m6f, and have selections for both of the races, including a progressive last-time-out winner.

  • 4.15 Curragh - Murkala

This Spring Fillies Handicap handicap looks an open and competitive contest, but when delving deeper through their form and what they have achieved to date, Murkala stands out above the rest.

Last summer she wasn’t far behind both Lake Victoria and Swelter who are at the head of the market for the Irish 1,000 Guineas earlier on the card, and these both look strong pieces of form and offer hope of more to come.

She won impressively at the Curragh last time over 7f and the step back up to a mile should be no problem.

She hasn’t looked the most straightforward of rides, and looking back through her win last time it was very noticeable she changed legs multiple times in the final couple of furlongs.

Further to this she was idling late on in the race, and there is definitely more potential to be unleashed on top of what we saw on the day.

With Patrick McGettigan claiming a useful 7lb this daughter of Too Darn Hot can bring up the second win of her career.

    4.50 Curragh - Ozark Daze

This staying handicap boasts 21 runners and it is likely there will be a fair pace to aim at for those slightly held up.

Provided a decent pace, being drawn slightly wide shouldn’t be too much of a hinderance and as such it is Ozark Daze who can finally shed his maiden tag at the 15th time of asking.

This will be his fourth start for Jack Davison and he has shaped well on both his last two starts, and despite not putting in the best performance most recently when stepped up to 1m4f, he ran a perfectly good race.

No gaps opened up when he needed them to, and with the race run at a very steady pace it was always going to prove a challenge to get involved from off the pace.

A further step up to 1m6f is unlikely to be an issue, for all he needs to prove he will stay being by Oasis Dream.

There is enough stamina on the damside though which bodes well for him here. With more likely to be in his favour here, most notably the likely strong pace, Ozark Daze can gain a first success, and perhaps, as we see so often, this can lead to a sequence of victories.
