The Edward Power-trained Sunny South West (11/4) got back to winning ways in the Thurles Races.ie Maiden for rider Michael Kenneally.

The six-year-old son of Valirann is extremely versatile, with some good performances both on the Flat and over hurdles, and a good run in Listowel just 13 days ago behind impressive winner Ebony King read as good form before today's race.

He always travelled well under Kenneally, and it turned into a stamina test as everyone played their cards before the bend, but it was Sunny South West that stayed on best to run out a comfortable three-and-a-half-length winner over the Jim Bolger-trained Teofil .

Speaking after the race, trainer Power said: "He has been unlucky on a few of his recent runs and he wasn't right one day at Roscommon, but today he finally got to run over two miles.

"We were very confident coming here as Sean's (Dalton, owner) other horse with me, Rokanako, finished second to the favourite Teofil earlier this summer, so we had a good line on form. Rain arrived, however, so we weren't too sure, as he loves very quick ground.

"We'll go back jumping now and go to Cheltenham's October meeting, where Michael (Kenneally) will be able to ride him in a conditionals jockeys' race. The idea of getting Michael today was that he is very good to ride from the front, he claims 5lb and will be on board in Cheltenham too, so it ticked all the boxes."
