Champion jockey Jack Kennedy returns from injury on Monday and, at Navan today, two of his replacements battled for the Pick Your Places At BoyleSports Maiden Hurdle with Sam Ewing scoring on Swing Davis (15/8).

Ewing and Danny Gilligan have shared Gordon Elliott’s rides since Kennedy’s November 30 fall and, today, the trainer’s Swing Davis and Gilligan-partnered Speculatrix were upsides and disputing the lead approaching the final flight.

Speculatrix, who previously was clear when falling at the final flight at Killarney last October, again exited at the final obstacle of today’s race, leaving Swing Davis to coast home.

Trainer Elliott said: "Sam thought he might have had Danny (Gilligan on Speculatrix) covered but no doubt Danny will say the same when I talk to him. They are there to be jumped and it was unfortunate for Speculatrix, but Danny and her are up.

"We will see where we go with Swing Davis, we will see if we can get a bit of black-type with her: she already has it in bumpers."
