Capable handicapper Take Heart (4/9f) resumed winning ways in Dundalk’s concluding View Restaurant At Dundalk Stadium Handicap today, notching a first success for his new connections, owners Shamrock Thoroughbreds and trainer Stephen Thorne.

Winner of Goodwood’s Chesterfield Cup in July 2024, Take Heart was purchased for 29,000gns by Thorne last October and, while a beaten favourite on his two recent runs, today scored comfortably by 1.25 lengths from Penzance .

Winning jockey Jack Kearney commented “the race probably cut up a small bit with the two non-runners earlier on, so it was only a four-horse race, and the aim was to get him doing things right, have him settled and have him hitting the line well. I always thought I was going to pick them up.

"It obviously didn't help with the runner-up (Penzance) bringing me across the track but, in fairness, I thought I did it a shade snugly. He's probably a lairy type as well, so he did it well.

"He's going to be a lovely horse for the grass, and there's plenty of fun to be had with him over the summer months."
