Takeover On Target For Jubilee

Australian raider Takeover Target is on course to bid for a famous sprint double in Saturday's Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Part-time taxi driver Joe Janiak reported his fairytale runner, who cost a bargain #500, to be none the worse for his exertions after notching a short-head success over Benbaun in the King's Stand Stakes on the opening afternoon of the five-day spectacular.

'Everything's good with him, no problems,' said Janiak, who owns the horse in partnership with his two sons and has just 10 horses in his stable near Canberra.

'We took him for a bit of a walk and everything is fine.'

Janiak and his stable star are now back in Newmarket where Takeover Target is lodging in Geoff Wragg's yard.

'We're back up in Newmarket now for a couple of days and the plan is still to run on Saturday,' he said.

The trainer enjoyed a low-key celebration, adding: 'We didn't have much of a party really, just dinner and a few drinks but it was a really good day.'

The seven-year-old was registering a 12th win in 19 starts in the five-furlong event and has now amassed nearly #1million in prize money.

If Takeover Target can complete the double in at the weekend he will emulate the achievement of his compatriot Choisir, who took both races for Paul Perry in 2003.
