Talk Heading For National

Idle Talk remains on course for the John Smith's Grand National despite making an early exit from the totesport Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Friday.

After Jason Maguire was knocked out of the saddle at the fifth fence, Idle Talk jumped round loose, causing one or two problems for the other runners.

'He's fine and had a canter this morning, no problems,' said trainer Donald McCain junior.

'He's still on course for the National, very much so.

'It was very frustrating at Cheltenham and Jason was as sick as a pig to be knocked off.

'It would have been intriguing to see how he would have got on.

'At least there's something on the bonus side. He's not had a hard prep race for the Grand National. He's gone round and enjoyed himself and jumped round. He came back thinking he'd done tremendously well.'

The Gold Cup was the eight-year-old's first race since he was bought by Trevor Hemmings out of Tom George's stable.

Idle Talk is 20-1 with Ladbrokes for the Grand National at Aintree on April 14, for which he has been allotted 11st 2lb.
