Talk The Talk made it two wins from as many starts over hurdles when following up a Limerick maiden win by landing the Grade 3 Jack McInerney Memorial Hurdle in fine style at Fairyhouse.

The Joseph O’Brien-trained gelding led after two and soon asserted under Sam Ewing.

The 2/1 joint favourite, available at double those odds overnight, kept on well on the run-in to beat fellow market leader I’m Slippy by seven and a half lengths. Murcia a Grade 1 winner at Aintree last spring but carrying a 13lb penalty here, could find no extra when headed after two out and finished a further four lengths back in third.

Ewing said, “He’s a lovely horse. Once he settled, after he jumped the first, he got into a nice rhythm and it was all plain sailing really.

“I winged the second-last and was kind of left there on my own but he’s very honest. He’ll improve plenty going forward.”

When asked if he could be a Grade 1 horse in the future, he added, “I don’t see why not.

“It was an okay maiden he won in Limerick, but I think that was a big step forward today. He’s beaten proven horses and other exciting horses in the field.

“Hopefully it’s onwards and upwards for him.”
