Father and daughter Robbie and Nicola Burns combined to win Limerick’s Greenmount Suite @ Limerick Handicap today with Carvalhal (9/2 — 7/2), which scored for owners the Holdcroft, Burns McLoughlin Partnership.

Ridden by Burns junior, the five-year-old was initially held up in rear-division and having led in the closing stages, went on to score by two lengths from Starting Monday .

Trainer Burns stated “he had run a little better than I expected here last week so I was delighted that this race came up, as it stood out as suiting him with the furlong extra. I wasn’t overly worried about today’s ground and he coped with it.

“I’d like to give much thanks to Henry and Dymphna Holdcroft and Tony McLoughlin, who are the owners and are great supporters. We bought this horse for 4,000gns so it is great when it worked out and we got a few issues sorted last year. He seems more comfortable and relaxed going racing now.”

He added “Nicola is learning a lot in Ger Lyons’, she is in there every morning and loves it down there. She has gone fast enough in getting to her 5lb claim and there are a lot of good apprentices out there, so it had become very competitive. As long as she is enjoying it and if that’s what she wants to do, we’ll support her and she is a big asset to me.”
