Tell Massini had a Cheltenham excuse

Tell Massini was suffering from a bacterial infection when he disappointed as favourite in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle last week.

Tom George's strapping six-year-old was previously unbeaten under Rules but faded tamely from the second-last flight.

"Most importantly Tell Massini is sound, there is nothing wrong with him physically. However he is suffering from a bacterial infection which we found out about on Monday," said George.

"He has got an excuse and he'll have a long summer to get over it.

"He's on a course of antibiotics and he's also got a wart on the inside of his mouth which we are having removed on Wednesday, it has been annoying him for a bit.

"I can't wait for him to go chasing next year," he told At The Races.
