The Fugue scoped dirty after the Eclipse John Gosden will prepare The Fugue for a repeat victory in Goodwood's Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes after an excuse emerged for her uncharacteristically poor run at Sandown on Saturday. Andrew Lloyd-Webber's filly produced a bad scope after finishing last behind Al Kazeem in the Coral-Eclipse, where she never looked dangerous and was brought home gently by jockey William Buick. It was the first time in 10 lifetime starts that The Fugue had finished outside the places in a career which has featured strong efforts in the likes of the Breeders' Cup and the Oaks. She was third to Al Kazeem on her reappearance in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, where she was beaten just three and a half lengths. Simon Marsh, the Lloyd-Webber's racing and bloodstock manager, said: "She was scoped after the race and she was full of mucus. "She has never run a bad race in her life, so at least that was the reason. John will hopefully get her ready for the Nassau now."
