Sent off the 11/10 favourite, The Story So Far landed the three-mile maiden hurdle at Cork for Charles and Philip Byrnes.

Runner-up in a Limerick handicap over Christmas, the son of Westerner was prominent throughout and went on before the third-last. Despite idling down the straight, he did enough to hold market rival Autoportrait by a length and a half.

Cathal Byrnes, assistant to his father, commented: "Philip gave him a lovely ride and went out with a plan to be handy. He was a little lairy over the first but once he got a lead and into a rhythm, he was good. He was the highest-rated horse, so all he did was run to his rating.

"He looks around but that's why he has headgear on and three miles is his trip. He'll go handicapping now.

"The syndicate (Milkers Syndicate) are all local and from Ballingarry: they've had a few horses with us over the years and it is great to get another winner for them."
