Third time lucky for Anna

Havana Anna made it third time lucky when running out an impressive winner of the opening Dooley Insurance Group Irish EBF Fillies Maiden at Naas this afternoon.

The Donnacha O’Brien-trained filly had been placed on her two previous outings, bumping into Royal Ascot winners Gstaad and True Love on debut.

She went to post a 4/11 shot today and was soon prominent under Gavin Ryan.

The daughter of Havana Grey was sent on over a furlong from home and really opened up in the closing stages to post a six-length success over Dawn Romance

Havana Anna had been runner-up to newcomer Suzie Songs at Cork on her latest outing and O’Brien said afterwards:-

“It was awful placing by me to put her in behind two Royal Ascot winners first time! To be fair I’d say Ger (Lyons)’s filly was smart the last day.

“I’d say she’s better back at five as she seems to have loads of pace. It’s nice to get a win into her and it is a (50,000 euro) Goffs Bonus race so a nice prize fund for the owner.

“I’d say she’s a stakes filly and there is a five-furlong fillies Listed race, the Marwell, back here towards the end of July that should be perfect for her.”
