Stephen Thorne is hoping for a big run from Sir Les Patterson in the Liverpool FC Foundation Scurry Handicap at the Curragh on Saturday.

The Zoustar gelding won twice at Dundalk over the winter after joining Thorne and he feels he’s in a good place now to challenge for premier handicap honours.

Cheek-pieces are fitted on the five-year-old, who drops in trip again having run over seven furlongs at Cork last time.

"The Scurry has been the plan for some time with him,” said Thorne.

"Again, it will be very draw dependant, but hopefully the horse is set up for a big run."

Thorne also had news on recent acquisition Excellent Believe, who he bought at the July Sale with Shamrock Thoroughbreds for 100,000gns:

"He’s a Jaber Abdullah horse that was being moved on.

"Jack Channon under-bid the horse and obviously was keen to hold onto the horse - that is always a good sign!

"He’s a stakes-placed horse and it’s very hard to come across these horses. When they enter a sales ring, we have to take note and try our best to secure them.

"I’m hoping that he would be a horse that might rock into a Cambridgeshire or a Sovereign Path."
