Thorne looking forward to next year with Gleneagle Bay Stephen Thorne continues to make rapid progress in the training ranks and recorded his second Dundalk double in the space of a fortnight when saddling Far From Dandy and Sir Les Patterson (now rated 99 on the all-weather after a four-length victory) to win on the Polytrack on Wednesday afternoon. Afterwards, the upwardly-mobile handler gave an update on smart handicapper Gleneagle Bay who is enjoying a winter break at the moment after a creditable, but unsuccessful, turf campaign in 2025. The five-year-old ran some cracking races without getting his head in front including when third in Ascot’s Victoria Cup, second in the Ahonoora Handicap at Galway and fourth in the Sovereign Path Handicap at Leopardstown in September. "He will get an Irish and English Lincoln entry and we will take it from there,” said Thorne "I think he is a horse that will want better ground. "The English Lincoln might be more of a target if we are going to target something early in the spring. "We'll probably be putting a big ring around the Victoria Cup next May. He was unlucky in the race this year. "I think he is more of a spring/summer horse, nice ground. "We still have a lot of faith in him. He has crept up the handicap all year without winning one, but we've always regarded him as a high-class horse and hopefully he'll have his day for AMO Racing." Innumerable, placed at the Curragh in May, is Thorne's sole runner at this evening's Dundalk fixture and will be ridden by Jack Kearney in the two-year-old fillies' maiden at 6.30pm.
