Dundalk takes centre stage in Ireland on Friday evening with an eight-race card. The action kicks off at 15:30 and runs through to the finale at 19:30 and we have provided selections and analysis for three of the races on Friday’s card.

Selections

4.25 Dundalk - Gran Habano

4.25 Dundalk - Gran Habano

Gran Habano has shown some good form this winter on the all-weather going close on all three of his runs at the track.

He started his winter campaign with a third over today’s course and distance and ran respectably, clearly finding no issue with the surface but not doing enough to catch the front two. He was then stepped up to a mile but did not get off to a good enough start and was always playing catch up. He managed to get close, but it was not enough. He was then tried over seven furlongs last time out and again fluffed the start, but ran well enough to notch another third place.

His experience in these races will benefit him here and he has a strong chance to get off the mark this time round.

5.00 Dundalk - Brigid’s Cloak

Another who has shown a decent amount of progress this winter on the all weather is the Johnny Murtagh trained Brigid’s Cloak.

She made a big step forward on her first start on the artificial surface back in October, not running a perfect race and getting held up at a crucial point, but she ran on well in the closing stages to go close but had to settle for fourth.

She followed that up with another fourth place last month, she was held up in the rear and found she had too much to do in the closing stages. It was an encouraging run nonetheless and if she can replicate her form again she should go close once more.

6.30 Dundalk - San Andreas

The veteran of a total of sixty three races, twenty nine of which have come at Dundalk, San Andreas has become almost a permanent fixture at the track bringing eight wins in his time and an additional eleven places.

However for all the success he has had in his time on track, he was slightly disappointing last time out when bidding for a hat-trick of wins. He was dropped in trip and he never really looked on terms, staying on in the closing stages but seemingly unable to quicken up in the way his rivals did.

Despite that recent disappointment, he frequently seems to find a way to get a good result at Dundalk and now back up to what appears to be his optimum trip of a mile and a quarter, he has a great opportunity to bounce back.
