Timurshah completes remarkable five-timer Dual-winner at this summer’s Galway festival Timurshah (2/1f) completed a remarkable five-timer today, landing Navan’s Kilberry (Q.R.) Handicap for trainer Aidan Melia and owner Michelle Connolly. Winner of four consecutive handicap hurdles this summer, including two at Galway, Timurshah today maintained an unbeaten spell for trainer Melia, who today legged up top amateur jockey Derek O’Connor. The 73-rated Aga Khan-bred five-year-old travelled well in today’s race and found plenty when challenged in the final furlong, holding on to score by a half-length from Day Trader . Melia, 30 from Monasterevin and formerly from the horse & pony racing scene, said “he’s a right horse and it was no harm to give him a run on the Flat to see what he was like. He has now proved that he can also do it on the Flat, so we have different options down the line. I’d say he might go on his holidays now, I think he deserves it. “He’s home in one piece, that’s all I want and we’ll get him back maybe around Christmas or the new year and make a plan then. If I could get another few like him I’d be alright, I probably won’t though!” Quotes from Gary Carson
