The lightly-raced Timurshah sprang a 20/1 surprise in the first division of the Bulmers Berries Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel.

Always prominent in the two-mile contest, the Aga Khan-bred gained the lead two out under Conor Smiters and went away to beat Tingarran Express by six lengths.

The Mastercraftsman gelding was having his first start since November.

Winning trainer Aidan Melia said "That's first run for me and I just freshened him up, that's all. I was hoping for a nice run out of him.

"Michelle Connolly rang me to take a few horses, so this is great. I have eight in training and have plenty of spare stables.

"I'm 30, based in Monasterevin and have my license about two years. I do my own thing in the yard, so am learning from my own mistakes."
