Title Battle Goes To The Wire

Seb Sanders and Jamie Spencer head into the penultimate day of the Flat turf season tied on 187 winners apiece.

The pair are due to clash at Musselburgh and Wolverhampton today before the championship is settled on what promises to be a thrilling afternoon at Doncaster tomorrow.

Both jockeys continued their ding-dong battle for the championship at Wolverhampton's evening meeting after Spencer had earlier stolen the advantage when partnering Cha Cha Cha to his 186th victory of the season at Musselburgh.

However, Sanders hit back when claiming the opening Book Tickets Online At wolverhampton-racecourse.co.uk Maiden Auction Stakes aboard the Ian Wood-trained Easy Wonder.

He then demonstrated all his skill in the saddle as Chrystal Venture just held on to the Ringside Nursery Handicap by a short head.

Sanders drew a blank on his final ride but looked likely to end the day a winner to the good as Spencer failed to strike on any of his three mounts.

However, the former champion proved most determined aboard Boz in the closing wolverhampton-racecourse.co.uk Handicap, eventually running out a half-length winner over Heathyards Pride.

The pair are tied after the British Horseracing Authority's disciplinary panel had earlier confirmed Spencer's victory on Black Rain at Newmarket last Friday.

Both riders were at the 7am hearing yesterday to hear Sanders' appeal against the decision of the local stewards to demote his mount, the first-past-the-post Classic Descent.

Spencer said: 'I suppose the decision could be important (in the title race) and it was great to get the race.'
