Tom lands the punt under Jimmy for Paul

Three weeks ago the Paul Flynn team got the 'each-way' money when the gambled-on Moon Dice finished fourth in the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham but a big punt was landed by a horse from the County Longford stable at Wolverhampton tonight when Limpopo Tom won the huk-valves.co.uk Handicap under Jimmy Fortune.

On his handicap bow, the former bumper performer for Paul McEnery (he was also bred by that County Kilkenny-based family), was having outing number four for Paul Flynn, sporting the Archie Boy silks of the MML Syndicate. He was available at as big 14/1 'early doors' for tonight's extended two mile handicap – a price that didn't last long.

Quite often though, these early movers are 'easy' on track – not in this case however as the four-year-old Saffron Walden gelding found 9/4 from 7/2.

Backers of Limpopo Tom would have always been on reasonably good terms with themselves and they only had the sweet travelling Red Current to worry about from before the straight. The victorious chestnut found loads when required in the final quarter mile to beat that aforementioned rival by six lengths. The Tony Martin-trained Sughera finished third.

Wexford native Fortune was completing a treble on the night and himself and Flynn are old friends. Indeed the pair combined to score with Mr Red Clubs, also at Wolverhampton, last Thursday.(EM)
