Tomasino going for Gold

Tomasino, touched off by Beekeeper in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot, is on course to make amends in the Tote Gold Trophy at Goodwood on Wednesday.

It promises to be a busy week for Tomasino`s owner, British Horseracing Board chairman Peter Savill, who also has Royal Rebel in the JP Morgan Private Bank Goodwood Cup and leading fancy Undeterred in the Vodafone Stewards` Cup.

The Tote currently have Tomasino as 7-1 second favourite for Wednesday`s Stg£70,000 contest, for which Elsaamri is the 6-1 market leader.

Mark Johnston, who trains Tomasino, told the Tote: 'Coming off an Ascot run like Tomasino put up I think he must have a great chance on Wednesday.

'He ran badly at Newbury earlier this season and I have no idea why, but the horse is in good form.

'A mile and a half seems the right trip for him for now, but he may well stay further and the Tote Ebor is definitely a race we are looking at later in the season.'

Meanwhile, Marcus Tregoning expects a bold show from Elsaamri, who is chasing a hat-trick following wins at Kempton and Bath, on the latter track beating Sing For Fame, who may re-oppose at Goodwood.

Tregoning said: 'Our horses are running very well at the moment, and Elsaamri is an improving three-year-old. He`s a very big horse, huge in fact, and he`ll be very capable of keeping himself out of trouble. The ground will also suit him.'

The sponsor`s Tote Gold Trophy betting: 6-1 Elsaamri, 7-1 Tomasino, 8-1 Rainshine, 9-1 Nation, Ovambo, 10-1 Halcyon Daze, Sing for Fame, 11-1 Exotic Fan, 12-1 Compton Commander, 14-1 Denise Margaret, Persian Pride, Steel Band, 16-1 bar.
