Top three horses in the world are Irish

Sea The Stars (131) is the top rated horse in the world according to the latest figures published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.

The calculation for these figures was based on performances between 24th January and 26th July 2009 and sees Rip Van Winkle (128) and Fame And Glory (127) come out second and equal third highest.

Welcoming the latest edition of the World Thoroughbred Rankings, Senior Irish Turf Club Flat Handicapper, Garry O’Gorman commented – “It is very exciting to see three Irish three-year-olds acknowledged as the best racehorses in the World at present, especially as all three horses - Sea the Stars, Rip Van Winkle and Fame and Glory appear to be improving and getting better with each run . The level of their ratings at this juncture is also very high historically. Yeats is acknowledged as the best stayer in the world while Mastercraftsman is recognised internationally as the best three-year-old miler globally. To have five such good horses in the World's Top Ten reflects very well on the calibre and status of Irish Racing worldwide.”
