Press Release from Tote Ireland

Despite the dual challenges of inclement weather and reduced attendance The Tote Vital Statistics from Galway 2013 offer up plenty of positives for both The Tote and The Punter.

Commenting on Galway 2013 Tote Ireland Commercial Director, Noel Hayes said: “Given that Wednesday and Thursday, the key days of the festival, were all but washed away by the weather The Tote performed with credit through Galway raceweek.

"There are so many positives to take from Galway that is difficult not to be both buoyed by the Tote performance and optimistic for the future.

"It also goes without saying that we were thrilled with our sponsorship of Wednesday's Galway Plate which served up such a memorable race. It was an honour to have President Michael D Higgins present the Galway Plate to the winning owner of Carlingford Lough, JP McManus.”

* Tote Turnover for the week was €4,299,612 representing a 1.5% decline in year on year turnover.

* On Course Turnover was €3,029,090 representing a 3% decline year on year.

* Off Course Turnover increased by 1.35%, this number does not tell the full story as it is heavily distorted by the PMU, a major co-mingling partner, who did not bet on Galway 2013 but hidden within are some significant core business success stories

* Account revenue increased by 52% year on year driven by Pick 6 business.

* Revenue on the newly released Mobile App increased by 51% year on year.

Commenting on Tote Turnover at Galway 2013 Tote Ireland Commercial Director, Noel Hayes said: “The numbers tell so many positive stories with a very significant increase in Account Turnover due in no small part to the reaction of our customer base to our initiative with our Pick 6 guarantee levels.

"The numbers also tell us that our customer base have welcomed the recent release of our new Mobile Betting App.”

"It is also evident that The Tote offers comparative value; on average our returns have significantly beaten the industry SP. This value is not just on offer to Win and Exacta punters but also to punters playing the Jackpot and Pick 6.

"Punters really seem to have taken note of and are responding to our Pick 6 Guarantees.

"These form part of a longer term strategy for our core business and the early metrics are encouraging. On Thursday we had both our largest ever pool at €148,640 and our largest ever sales in a single day at €76,678."
