The chase track at Leopardstown is one all riders look forward to competing around. Champion jockey Paul Townend is no different and he is approaching next weekend’s Leopardstown Dublin Racing Festival with relish given the book of rides he has.

Beaten market-leaders at the Christmas festival here, Chacun Pour Soi and Kemboy, will bid to atone in the Ladbrokes Dublin Chase and the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup respectively.

Willie Mullins’ pair are ante-post favourites again and Townend reflected: “He (Chacun Pour Soi) has been well since. I hope he can come on — he’ll have to come on a lot for Christmas.

“We were disappointed he got beat but taking the positives out of it he gained more experience there and hopefully he can improve and get back to winning ways this weekend.

“It’s well highlighted that a lot of ours are (coming forward from their reappearances).

“That’s what you’d be hoping. He ran very well for a long way — he was a winner for a long way.

“Improving fitness-wise should put him bang there.

“Kemboy ran similar to Chacun. For a long way he did everything right.

“It’s a track he likes and he showed he has a bit of sparkle.

“Hopefully he can improve as well.

“A lot of these horses are the same. Even the maidens and the novices are improving from their first run and hopefully the seasoned horses can do the same.”
