TREGONING PLEASED WITH NAYEF`S PREPARATION

Trainer Marcus Tregoning today reported Sagitta 2000 Guineas favourite Nayef to be on course for the Classic as his training programme continues to intensify.

But, no decision will be made until nearer the time on whether the half-brother to Nashwan, a 5-1 shot for the Guineas with Ladbrokes, will have a prep race before the Newmarket showpiece.

His trainer told the Racing Channel: 'He`s very well and I`m very pleased with him.

'He has stepped up to cantering every day and physically he looks fine.

'I think we`ll just have to see how we go in the spring. I wouldn`t be inclined to rush it either way.

'If he`s ready for Newmarket or Newbury it`s possible he may run but I wouldn`t mind him going straight to the Guineas.' Nayef was given a rating of 119 in the International Classifications, the highest rating given to a juvenile who had not raced in Group company.

Tregoning added: 'You can`t expect too much more from two runs. That was the intention - there were no ideasabout running him a third time.'
