Despite the fact that there are no Irish meetings on Tuesday, there is one Irish raider to watch out for in Britain and the horse in question runs at Newcastle.

County Tyrone-based trainer Patrick McKenna is responsible for the runner in question, who is set to line up in the feature Class 3 handicap over 7f.

We assess the chances of McKenna's runner and consider who the main dangers are likely to be in this thoroughly competitive 0-95 event.

Catch The Paddy - Newcastle 3.22 @ 7/1

No stranger to these shores, CATCH THE PADDY began his career at Kevin Ryan’s yard, before making the move to McKenna over the winter. He has four wins and seven placed-efforts to his name in 24 career starts and has already won for current connections.

That aforementioned success came over a mile at Dundalk on stable debut and he took full advantage of being given a soft lead, making virtually all the running before going on to score by two lengths.

The challengers did eventually come but he was going pretty well for most of the race and was able to maintain a comfortable advantage. Rory Mulligan was on board that day and life will probably be a little harder without his 7lb claim.

Oisin Orr is an interesting booking however and there’s lots to like about the horse’s pedigree. Catch The Paddy is by No Nay Never and out of a Galileo mare, who never made it to the racetrack for Aidan O’Brien.

Recent evidence suggests that the 7f trip isn’t ideal and he hasn’t won off this sort of mark since taking a Newmarket handicap off 89 in September 2023. It was a reasonable effort when third at Dundalk recently but that was with the help of a 7lb claimer.

William Haggas runs Brewing here and he is sure to be popular off the back of his course and distance win last time out, with a 2lb rise looking pretty reasonable.

The hugely progressive William Dewhirst could also be a major danger, having won four of his five starts here at Newcastle since the turn of the year.
