Tullyveery Lad bounced back to winning ways when landing the Slievenamon Claiming Hurdle at Clonmel this afternoon.

The 14/1 shot was dropping back into claiming company having finished mid-division in handicaps over both hurdles and fences at Tramore, in the space of three days, in mid-August.

Donagh Meyler drove his mount into contention over the final flight and it was a long run home with the last hurdle omitted in the two-mile-three contest.

He stuck to his task well to get the better of Allo Al Khawaneej in the closing stages for a length-and-a-half success.

“It might be only a claimer but for the owners it's like winning a big race,” said Cody.

“His days are nearly numbered, he's ten and he's not as good as he was. To get him to win another race is great.

“He's been in the yard for years and anything he does from now on will be a bonus.

“I'm thrilled for the lads, it's brilliant. He's in at Tramore next Thursday and if he's not claimed he'll probably go there again.

“He was in for small money but he was meeting horses fairly wrong today on ratings. At the same time I was hoping he'd be thereabouts as he always runs his race.”
