Hayley Turner punched the air after claiming the Shergar Cup Mile aboard Early Morning.

Britain's most successful female rider retired at the end of last season but hot on the heels of being awarded an OBE in June, Turner answered the call to make a mini-comeback for the Girls Team and take part in her 10th Shergar Cup.

With team-mate Gordon making the running aboard Beach Bar, Turner had Harry Dunlop's Early Morning positioned close to the pace throughout.

The 6-1 shot hit the front early in the straight and while a host of challengers lunged late, Early Morning held on by half a length from the Fanning-ridden Emell.

Highland Colori (Pierre-Charles Boudot) was third, Bancnuanaheireann (Thierry Jarnet) was fourth and Beach Bar was fifth.

Turner said: "It's so nice and so special to do it here - I'm thrilled.

"It was the easiest decision ever (to ride in the Shergar Cup again) and it's such a pleasure to be here.

"It was a steering job, really. I think he probably got a bit lazy in front and he's got more to come I'm sure.

"If only every day was like this. It's the day-to-day grind that puts me off (making a permanent return to race-riding).

"I'm really lucky and privileged to be in this position, to be able to come back for today."

The victory ensures every team will go home having won at least one race on the afternoon.
