Turpin to run in Longchamp on Sunday Richard Hannon has warned punters not to underestimate Dick Turpin again in Sunday's Poule d'Essai des Poulains at Longchamp. Having turned over his much-vaunted stablemate Canford Cliffs in the Greenham Stakes on his first start of the season, he confirmed that form in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket by beating all bar French raider Makfi. With softer ground likely in France for their version of the Guineas, Hannon believes that could bring about even more improvement in the three-year-old. "People have under-rated Dick Turpin. I told anyone who would listen before the Greenham that he could be the fly in the ointment, and he not only won that trial but went on to run a blinder to finish second in our Guineas," said Hannon. "Ryan (Moore) said he did everything right at Newmarket, but there will be a bit more juice in the ground at Longchamp and that will be right up his street. "He is a serious horse and I hope and think that he'll go very close," he told his website.
