Always prominent under Orla Tynan, Irish Rumour (11/2) held on toward the finish in the Navan Racing Festival Early Bird Tickets On Sale Now Handicap at Navan over five furlongs.

Racing up the near side, the Jennifer Lynch-trained mare quickened up under two furlongs out and got first run on the eventual second, The Love Machine (14/1 — 9/4F), who was the gamble of the race. Recent Naas scorer, Steel Magnolia (5/1), was a further two and a half lengths back in third.

Owned by Jerry Fennell and Pat Phibbs, the winner stepped up two places from her recent Curragh third two weeks ago.

Orla Tynan said: "There's a lot of weight in this saddle - riding the horse is easier than carrying this saddle!

"I knew she would stay going. I just didn't want to have her out on her head too early, but she actually travelled easy there.

"I rode her the last day in the Curragh over six (furlongs) and she finished third. We were saying five (furlongs) would probably suit her better and it did. The hill helps as well; she rallied up through that very well.

"She kept fighting the whole way - I was hoping she would stay going and she found more and stayed going."
