It was a race where plenty of horses found difficulty with the tightness of the track, as the Joseph O’Brien-trained Mawhinah seemed to take a false step early in the contest, which allowed the Claire O’Connell-trained Essential Comedy to take up the lead. When she shot for home, it left a gap available for O’Gorman, who took it and delivered her mount with a perfectly-timed challenge. The daughter of U S Navy Flag stayed on well to win by a length. Speaking after the race, Fahey said: "Not surprising. Her work at home is good. She went up the Vic on Tuesday morning and it's the only time she's been away from home. I had her half-brother Trapalanda, he was second in the Curragh first time out and then he won his maiden in Listowel. He's gone to Australia and he's won out there, so the family is good."
