UK racing continues to be hit by the cold snap There will be no jumps racing in Britain for the next few days after Thursday’s meeting at Ffos Las was called off due to a frozen track, while today's all-weather meeting at Newcastle has also been abandoned. Officials at Ffos Las had hoped to escape the worst of the overnight freeze and called a precautionary inspection for 8.30am this morning. However, that check showed the track to be unraceable with little prospect of sufficient improvement. The course tweeted: “Despite the huge efforts of our ground staff team to cover the course, tomorrow’s race meeting has been abandoned — parts of the track are frozen and temperatures are not forecast to rise sufficiently for it to thaw.” Newcastle was called off following a 10am inspection with the racecourse tweeting "Temperatures not lifting enough to assist in melting snow within the AW surface profile." The north-eastern track was due to stage a seven-race card kicking off at 1.30pm, but overnight snow combined with temperatures of -5C overnight proved too much. Newcastle's scheduled meeting tomorrow will again be subject to a 10am inspection on the day of racing. There is less snow forecast but cold temperatures are set to continue. Wolverhampton is the only UK action to survive today with an eight-race fixture only getting the go ahead after a 10am inspection this morning. The Tapeta surface had a light covering of snow overnight.
