Unbeaten Waldpark takes German Derby

The Michael Owen-owned and Tom Dascombe-trained Brown Panther was eventually fifth as Waldpark won the German Derby at Hamburg.

Andreas Wohler's unbeaten son of Dubawi struck the front with a furlong to run and stormed home for a commanding success from stablemate Earl Of Tinsdal in second.

Third home was Saltas who stayed on from off the pace but too late in the day.

Richard Kingscote attempted to make all the running on the English favourite however he was challenged for the lead with two furlongs left to run.

To his credit he battled on well however the son of Shirocco got tired in the rain-softened ground late in the day and eventually finished fifth after a photograph with the Kieren Fallon-ridden Arrigo who finished his race strongly.
