Fozzy Stack's Night Of Thunder filly Varshini got off the mark at the second time of asking in the Gowran Park Golf Club Maiden over seven furlongs.

The well supported 15/8 favourite held a lovely position tracking the leaders and availed of a seam to come through to lead approaching the final furlong.

Seamie Heffernan sent the Classic entrant about her business in the final furlong and she readily asserted in the closing stages to score by two and a-quarter lengths from Kilmood Susan (7/1). Gran Habano was another half a length back in third at an easy-to-back 18s.

Stack said: “She had a good run last year and had a few little niggly holdups when we were trying to get her to the 'Million'. She scoped wrong and a few things like that.

“She probably does need a dig in the ground and hopefully she will come forward from that.

“She’s in the Irish 1,000 Guineas, but that will probably come a bit too quick at this stage.”
