Vega set to head straight to Newmarket Blue De Vega could head straight for the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on April 30. Michael O'Callaghan's charge sprang to prominence last season with an impressive victory in the Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown. The Lope De Vega colt was having his first start for Qatar Racing in the Group Three contest, having been purchased by Sheikh Fahad following his effortless success in a Naas maiden. O'Callaghan is excited for the year ahead, but said Blue De Vega will only run in the Guineas if he is ready. "He's shaping up well and has done really well over the winter. I'm delighted with how he has done," said the Curragh handler. "Obviously he's back in full training and came back in just before the new year. "We're very happy with him and very excited with the way he is going. "We're not looking to have a prep race and he'll probably go straight to the Guineas, all going well. "If it were a case that the Newmarket Guineas came a bit too soon for us, I would have no problem doing right by the horse and running him in a trial before going for the Irish Guineas. "We're aiming at Newmarket, but it's a long season, and he's one to look forward to."
