Visindar Plunge Continues

Visindar was all the rage for the Vodafone Derby after making an impressive start to his three-year-old campaign at Longchamp yesterday.

The Andre Fabre-trained colt was cut to 5-1 joint-favourite for the Epsom Classic with Horatio Nelson by VC Bet, while Ladbrokes make him clear market leader at 4-1.

Coral were more cautious in initially cutting the son of Sinndar to 9-1 from 11-1 but were then inundated with enquiries and forced to slash his price to 7-1 and then 13-2 in a vain attempt to stem the tide.

'This is one of the biggest Derby gambles we have seen in years and punters were falling over themselves to back him at any price,' said spokesman Simon Clare.

Christophe Soumillon settled his mount in third as stablemate Thomamix set a quick early pace and he was still hard on the bridle turning into the straight.

The ever-confident rider only had to let the reins out a notch and Visindar accelerated to the front with his partner just letting him stride on for a facile triumph over Racinger.

Soumillon said: 'He was very impressive.

'He did everything really easily today, he is a very fine horse and is a fine prospect.'

Neal Wilkins, spokesman for VC Bet, said: 'This was a typical ride from Christophe Soumillon and we were all left guessing about how much of a horse he had underneath him, but potentially Visindar looks as though he could go all the way.'

Fabre made it a double when Gentlewave swooped late and fast to claim the Group Two Prix Noailles.
