Voice of Reason made it a third course and distance win this winter when battling back bravely close home to take the Happy New Year From All At Dundalk Apprentice Handicap at the County Louth venue.

Trained by William Delahunty, the six-year-old scored twice towards the end of last year, before failing to stay when upped to two-miles last time.

Making much of the running under Hugh Horgan, the Michael Delahunty owned six-year-old was headed by Nakasero over a furlong out.

Dropping to third on the run-in, as Cinnamon Coco went second, the 11/2 chance found plenty for his rider, getting back up close home in a driving finish to win by half-a-length.

William Delahunty said: "He is a good horse, he loves it. He did keep finding.

"With the new jockey today, first time he had sat up on him - we had to talk him through it!

"I was wondering was he after going fast enough. He was headed, but he stays real well.

"Two miles stretches him a little bit. There's a burst of speed and energy in him, but only for so long.

"There's a two-mile qualified riders' race down the road. If we run him over two miles again, we'd probably ride him slightly different. Out in front, two miles, he's not a real galloper. They came up behind him the last day and they drove him on.

"He has some constitution, I've never seen him come off his feed."
