Dermot Weld and Chris Hayes shared their second Killarney winner in as many days as Kalir landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

In another tight finish, the 3/1 chance got the better of the Michael O'Callaghan-trained 15/8 shot Cello Sonata by a neck, with 6/4 favourite Elusive Path four lengths away in third place.

Weld and Hayes were winners with 6/4 favourite Wild Sapphire over the same course and distance a little over 24 hours earlier.

The winning jockey said, ““It was nice to get it.

“He did a lot of things wrong. He was quite gassy with me early; I don’t know why because he’s normally very laidback. So, there is a bit of improvement in him on that side of things.

“I got a good sit into him, and a fill. I was confident the whole way up the straight and when I got there, I’d say he probably thought he had enough done.

“He promises plenty at home and I think when he gets it together, and matures a little bit mentally and learns how to do things properly, I think a better race will suit him.

“There is a nice handicap on the 9th of August, three-year-old and up (at the Curragh). He won’t get touched for that so he could come in off a nice weight in that 0-90.”
