Weld expects Conquest to improve for Meld run

Dermot Weld has warned punters Casual Conquest is likely to improve for the run when he lines up in the Group Three Meld Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday.

The four-year-old, placed in both the English and Irish Derbies last season, finished second to Bronze Cannon on his comeback in the Jockey Club Stakes before winning the Tattersalls Gold Cup in impressive style.

However, that run came some two months ago and Weld is hoping there will be more to come from his charge later in the season when he has some much bigger targets.

"After he won the Tattersalls Gold Cup he had a nice holiday, but he is coming back in the Meld Stakes and we will take it from there," Weld told At The Races.

"We would love to think as a long-term target we could have a crack at the Arc and we start back tomorrow.

"He is a magnificent, big horse and a horse that will represent us very well but tomorrow is his first run back after a break and he is carrying 10 stone.

"We expect a very big run from him and the horse is pretty fit, but hopefully there will be nice improvement in him."
