Weld hoping Beauty steps up

Dermot Weld is hoping Profound Beauty can improve on last year's fifth place when she has another crack at the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

The five-year-old finished two and three-quarter lengths behind Viewed in the two-mile contest last November and she has won each of her three races in preparation this term.

Profound Beauty sealed her place in the Flemington field with victory at Leopardstown last month and Weld, who remains the only European trainer to have won the race with Vintage Crop (1993) and Media Puzzle (2002), is anticipating another good run.

He said: "I'm happy with her. She has won three Group races this year and the weight (for Melbourne) is fair.

"It is one of the toughest races in the world to win. She is a year older and tougher and if she is lucky and we get the rub of the green, she should run a good race."

Profound Beauty is as low as 10-1 favourite with Victor Chandler and Stan James for the Group One on November 3rd.
