Windermere waiting on weather before return Jim Culloty has revealed the weather will dictate when his Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Lord Windermere is likely to return to action. The 2013 RSA Chase winner returned to Prestbury Park in March as an outsider for chasing's blue riband, but recorded a famous victory for his trainer, who won the Gold Cup three times as a jockey aboard the legendary Best Mate. The eight-year-old was roughed off for the season following his Cheltenham heroics, but is now back in training and delighting his connections. Culloty told At The Races: "He's in super order. The plan will be to work back from Cheltenham, but a lot will depend on what the weather is like in the autumn as I wouldn't run him on quick ground first time out. "We've had a hell of a dry summer and I damaged a couple of horses last year on ground that was firm, it rained and we thought it would be safe but it wasn't as it was firm underneath. "With a horse of Lord Windermere's calibre I won't be taking any chances, so if we get rain in November he'll run somewhere and if we don't it will be the Lexus Chase (at Leopardstown) at Christmas."
