Winston hurt in fall Jockey Robert Winston was taken to Whiston Hospital, Merseyside, `for observation` after taking an horrific fall from Jade Warrior in the Park House Farm Maiden Stakes at Haydock Park today. As the field raced into the home bend Winston`s reins broke, and having been thrown heavily to the ground he appeared to be kicked by a following horse and was attended by paramedics for several minutes before being stretchered into an ambulance. He was conscious as he was taken into the medical room and acknowledged his colleague Fergal Lynch with a wave of his hand, but clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright explained: 'Robert suffered mild concussion and was slightly disorientated for a few seconds.'One side of the rein broke and then the extra strain on the other sided caused it to break too, but the equipment was found to be well maintained and serviceable and it appears it was one of those things that can unfortunately happen.'The stewards held an inquiry at which Kevin Darley, who rode the winner Anne Tudor, George Duffield (Bella Beguine) and John Carroll (Slupia) attended, and they concluded that the fall was as a result of the reins breaking and not as a consequence of any riding offence.
