The second division of the mile handicap at Dundalk produced another big priced winner as 40/1 shot Java Wood ran out a convincing victor.

Julian Pietropaolo settled mid-division on his mount before producing him to challenge a furlong-and-a-half from home.

The Kevin Smith-trained gelding hit the front inside the final furlong and kept on well to post a length-and-a-quarter success over Georg Zhukov

Java Wood, a five-year-old, was making his fourth career outing, all this year, and his handicap debut.

Smith said: "He did that well and Julian was happy with him.

"We have had him up here a few times and he has worked well, so we were happy with him coming here.

"I was worried about the weight and I was kind of worried about the mile, but Julian said he actually liked it.

"Long may it continue (association with Pietropaolo), he's value I think and he is definitely an up-and-coming jockey.

"The plan was to give him the run today and then he is going to have to get a break at some stage. We'll have to reassess and he could back here in January, I won't rule it out."
