Young rider set to leave hospital

Appprentice Kirsty Mullineaux is to be discharged from Countess of Chester Hospital later today following a race fall last Saturday.

The 16-year-old was injured when unseated from shot Blue Kite, trained by her father Michael, at Chester on Saturday.

'She`s coming out today. She`s a lot better so they are going to release her. They`ve been very good with her because she had been very badly concussed and you`ve got to be careful with that sort of thing,' her stepmother Sue said this morning.

'She was very lucky not to have been brain damaged _ crossing fingers I think she`s going to be all right.'

'I would think it would take her at least a month to six weeks before she will be fit. She`ll have to be re-assessed and she won`t have her licence before then anyway.

'At home we will be carrying out strict instructions from the doctors and she won`t be doing anything until she is clear. It is not worth the risk.

'The fall has not put her off one jot. It`s the nature of the game. We have all had bad falls, you just have to get on with it.'

The Mullineaux family are campaigning for the reduction of the safety limit in apprentice races at Chester and the racecourse executive are looking into the matter.

'If Chester reduce the fields in apprentice races we`ll be happier. They have been good about it and we`ve had a lot of people telling us that we are quite right,' she said.
