Zarinava claims Grade 2 Hurdle at Donny for Harrington

Zarinava finished strongly to land the Grade 2, bluesquare.com Doncaster Mares' Hurdle in the hands of Paul Moloney.

The 7-1 chance was the lesser fancied of two runners for trainer Jessica Harrington, who also saddled the 10/3 favourite Give It Time.

Moloney settled his grey mare towards the rear for much of the contest but began to creep into the race as the field straightened up for home.

Henderson's My Petra led the field to the third last but Zarinava was still going well enough in behind rivals and once the gap came after the final flight, she quickened up well to score by a length and a half.

Harrington said: "She came back after an injury at Leopardstown over Christmas over two and a half miles and Denis O'Regan thought she didn't quite get the trip.

"She came over here last week but had to go back home as the meeting was abandoned and then she's come back today.

"I was thrilled with her and this is the first winning black type she has got.

"She's been placed in Listed and Graded races. I don't know what we'll do with her now, but maybe she could go for the mares' race at Cheltenham or a handicap.

"They went very quick today and she loved it."

Give It Time could finish only sixth and Harrington added: "I don't think she travels away from home, she doesn't really eat and do well over here.

"Robbie (Power) said she was cantering turning in but went out very quickly."

The race sponsors make the winner 16-1 for the David Nicholson Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
