In the words of commentator Jerry Hannon Gentil J came from “way off the pace and stormed to the front,” as Chris Hayes completed a 77/1 Galway double in the James P. Cunningham Electrical Handicap.

This was over barring something untoward happening once Hayes set Gentil J alight from over two furlongs out.

Hayes earlier prevailed by a head on Jarlath Fahey’s Dream Walker but on Gentil J he had seven lengths in hand at the finish, over Insignia Of Rank

Said Rogers, after landing his first winner this Flat season: "I didn't think there'd be a winner this year but you never know.

"She has the ability and dropped down to a mark.. that she'll never see again for a while! But she won and hopefully she'll go to Cork where there's a fillies race for her.

"We thought she had a chance at Listowel where we put blinkers on her but she didn't raise a gallop. She loves that heavy ground."
