FormscanBy Mark Nunan - There was a healthy British entry but only two are making the journey, Albasheer and Strike Red. The former was a smart two-year-old who was a creditable sixth in the Dewhurst and he was only beaten three lengths when tried in blinkers in last month's Wokingham at Royal Ascot. Strike Red's biggest payday came when beating 18 rivals at York last autumn and his latest second at Ripon indicated a return to form. The home contingent have strength in numbers, though, and FURNACE CREEK is a sporting selection. A winner over a similar trip at Limerick last month, he has run okay over 7f since but may be helped by dropping back to this distance and he's still fairly unexposed. His young rider Wayne Hassett landed the valuable Rockingham Handicap here on Derby weekend and is good value for his claim. Big Gossey is a regular in this type of contest and was touched off in last year's renewal. He comes here in good heart after being beaten fractions in a blanket finish to the aforementioned Rockingham but may now be a touch high in the ratings.
